During the 10-day college study tour to Nancy, Bordeaux, and Paris, I had the opportunity to experience the French way of living. I learned about the art, the architecture, and cuisine of France. I visited some of the landmarks, making my way through the neighborhoods and realizing how there’s much more to life than what I know. I am now inspired to explore other countries and cultures around the world.

For me, the study tour was a life-changing experience beyond measure. I learned about the French language, culture, and history, which has deepened my appreciation and understanding of France. It instilled within me a heightened sense of cultural awareness and broad-mindedness. For instance, I realized how often we overlook the little things that we take for granted, such as the ease of communicating with those around us in a shared language. In France, I was compelled to venture outside my comfort zone and try to understand French.

My industrial visit to Lectra shed insightful light on the work culture of France. Their meetings began with cordial chitchats, a quest of connecting with each other. Their workday starts later than ours, at 10 o’clock, and their lunch breaks are longer. I realized how important work-life balance is to the French. For instance, when the Macaron Government raised the retirement age from 62 to 64, the French took to the streets of Paris, actively voicing their dissent. The marches, the strikes, and the people fighting for what’s central to them—it was a revelation to me because they emphasized the need to stand up and fight for one’s beliefs.

Overall, the tour has helped me to understand important life skills such as independence, adaptability, and communication, which are vital in today's globalized world. As I’m back in Cincinnati and about to graduate, my understanding of the world has been impacted by study abroad trips in Singapore in my 2nd year and France in my senior year. I now have a more open view of the world and how I, an individual, have an equal opportunity of bringing the chance.
